The T3 carrier is a leased-line connection to the Internet transferring data up to 44.736 Mbps with 28 separate channels. It is used mainly by ISPs connecting to the Internet backbone. T3 line contains 672 individual channels, each of which can transfer data at 64 Kbps. Most T3 lines are used by very large companies and universities with high traffic. Many computers can be connected to the Internet at the same time without the speed being affected and T3 lines support the transmission of very large files over the Internet. T3 lines are also referred to as DS3 lines. T3 is perfect for large corporate offices allowing thousands of users to connect without causing any major problems.
A T-3 line represents a bandwidth equal to about 672 regular voice grade telephone lines, which is wide enough to transmit full motion, real-time video, and very large databases over a busy network. A T-3 line is typically installed as a major networking artery for large corporations and universities with high volume network traffic. For example, the backbones of the major Internet service providers are comprised of T-3 lines. |
